A bank robber dressed as a leprechaun was killed yesterday during a St Patrick's Day hold-up.

The suspect burst into a bank in fancy dress armed with a handgun and demanded tellers hand over cash.

The robber and his accomplice then fled in a getaway car — firing shots at cops on their way out.

The suspects later crashed their vehicle just outside of Gallatin, Tennessee, US, and were involved in a shoot out with police.

The robber dressed as a leprechaun was killed in the gun fight and the other took his own life.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was harmed, Gallatin Police Sgt Bill Storment said.
